Skippy Green: The name originated from a play I was doing in 2003, when I had the
role of an unnamed bartender who the cast and crew just started to call "Skippy". The nickname stuck for years.
I suppose it's no surprise then that most people assume that the character is me. In truth, the character was born of
the same mold and shares a lot of the same ideals... but really all of the characters
are some percentage of me. They do come from my brain afterall. As I tell everyone,
Skippy is more like me than any other single character... more like me when I was 19. Skippy is a lot more naive and unworldly than I am (now). He sort of represents the view of a newly out gay person ("Newbie")
who is a bit cynical toward the gay community, someone who hasn't yet conformed and doesn't want to feel like "one
of them". He constantly questions everything, falls into a lot of the same early social traps most newbies do, and thus
gets trampled on like a doormat to a porchstep that he's not sure he belongs to. That is not solely my newbie experience, but probably every gay person's.
